The Global Canopy Programme is an alliance of 37 scientific institutions in 19 countries, which lead the world in forest canopy research, education and conservation.Their work programmes all aim to define and explore the range and economic value of forest ecosystem services and to share their findings with the decision-makers in Government and finance. The organisation has worked closely with Prince Charles to promote forest conservation. Andrew Mitchell, a trustee of the Orangutan Foundation is the Director of GCP and has been in Copenhagen for the duration of COP 15. In addition to attending key conferences he has been manning the "Little REDD (Reducing Emissions from Deforestations and Degradation) Desk" and handing out copies of the newly published Little Climate Book and the Little REDD book. You can read Andrew's blog from the conference here. As website mongabay.com recently noted, GCP have reported that more than half world's science academies have signed a statement supporting a plan to save tropical forests as a means to fight climate change . You can read further details and see the statement, including recommendations to world leaders here.
