Orangutan Care Centre and Quarantine Facility (OCCQ) |
The Orangutan Care Centre and Quarantine Facility (OCCQ) operated by Orangutan Foundation International provides high quality veterinary care to orphaned orangutans. The Centre was opened in 1998 and operates under a Memorandum of Understanding signed with the Ministry of Forestry. It is situated in the village of Pasir Panjang near Pangkalan Bun, Central Kalimantan (Indonesian Borneo).
The Centre’s facilities include an operating theatre, X-ray room, laboratory, library and separate quarantine complex. Adjoining the OCCQ is a remnant patch of rainforest which provides a learning area and “halfway house” for the orangutans before they return to a life in the wild.
